ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Australia Wrap up Sri Lanka for 209 at Ekana Stadium
Australia bundled out Sri Lanka for a score of 209 runs at Lucknow, despite the Lankan Lions' good start to the innings thanks to their opening pair of Kushal Perera and Pathum Nissanka.

Sri Lanka managed to score a total of 209 in 43.3 overs against Australia in their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 encounter at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Monday.

Kushal Mendis, the Sri Lankan skipper opted to have a bat first as the coin toss swung his way.

The Lankan Lions were provided a good start by their opening pair of Kushal Perera and Pathum Nissanka, who weathered the Australian bowling attack to put up a 125-run stand for the opening wicket.

Nissanka made 61 runs off just 67 deliveries before he was sent back to the pavilion by Pat Cummins as David Warner gobbled up a catching opportunity afforded to him by the Lankan batsman.

Cummins struck again as he cleaned out Perera after the Sri Lankan made 78 runs off just 82 deliveries.

Aussie spinner Adam Zampa managed to get rid of skipper Mendis for a paltry 7 runs, before he doubled his wicket tally with the scalp of Sadeera Samarawickrama, who went back to the hut after having made 8 runs in as many deliveries.

Mitchell Starc, who issued a double Mankad warning to Perera within the first five overs of the game instead of actually uprooting the bails, picked the first of his two wickets on the day as he castled Dananjaya de Silva for 7 runs before Dunith Wellalage was dismissed through a runout.

Zampa struck again as he scalped Chamika Karunaratne as he caught the Lankan player plumb in front of the wicket, before making his wicket tally on the evening 4 with the dismissal of Maheesh Theekshana for a duck.

Starc brought the Sri Lankan innings to an end as he broke Lahiru Thirumana’s defences to wrap the Lankan Lions innings for a score of 209.

Australia will look to chase down the target as they go in search of a first win in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Cup. Sri Lanka too are yet to register a victory at the showpiece event in India and will look to bundle out Australia before they reach the target.
