Watch: Class 7 Students Demonstrate How To Use Menstrual Cups In School
A teacher, along with two students, educates Class 7 students about menstrual cups, sanitary napkins and tampons.

The stigma surrounding menstruation often leads to women being unfairly singled out. However, a viral Instagram video is challenging this narrative by featuring a teacher helping two Class 7 students, Kishan and Sujal, educate their classmates about menstrual cups, sanitary napkins, and tampons. The video shows the trio presenting menstrual health items and explaining their use.

In the video, Class 7 students Kishan and Sujal demonstrate how to use a menstrual cup. They explain the differences between store-bought disposable pads and cups.

“Kishan and Sujal, grade 7 students, demonstrated to their classmates how to use a menstrual cup. They explained the differences between the cups and the disposable pads available in stores. They emphasised that the packaged pads contain plastic, while reusable cups and cloth pads are better for the environment and one’s health,” a part of the caption read.

It further states, “In our educational session on menstrual health and hygiene, we familiarized the students with the various range of menstrual products accessible in the market, including sanitary pads, menstrual cups, tampons, reusable cloth pads, and underwear pads. Kishan and Sujal volunteered to demonstrate the proper usage of each product while explaining the materials used in each product.”

Additionally, the post emphasizes the importance of educating young kids about menstrual health and cleanliness. The initiative aims to normalize conversations about menstruation while promoting environmentally friendly and healthier alternatives to disposable pads. Posted on June 11, the video has garnered over 40 million views on Instagram and has received significant attention and praise.

A user wrote, “The actual education we need in school.”

Another commented, “For all those who are saying that it’s unnecessary for this age. Most girls get their first periods by 8th standard and knowing the importance of menstrual hygiene is necessary for everyone.”

“Thank you for normalising periods. Imagine all the young girls feeling comfortable and less awkward about that stain on the skirt,” read a comment.
