A popular YouTuber has found himself in hot water after revealing the gender of his unborn child on social media, following a sex determination test conducted abroad. In a string of videos, Chennai-based Irfan disclosed that he and his wife had traveled to Dubai specifically to undergo this test.

Irfan, a well-known Tamil YouTuber and food vlogger with 4.29 million followers, shared the gender of their baby in a video posted on May 18. The footage captured their visit to a Dubai hospital on May 2 and later featured a lively ‘gender reveal’ party held in Chennai. Irfan pointed out in the video that while such tests are illegal in India, they are allowed in many other countries.

During the video, Irfan openly expressed his hope for a daughter and his immense joy upon discovering the baby’s gender. The reveal video quickly amassed nearly 2 million views, while the vlog documenting their Dubai trip garnered over 1 million views.

However, the celebration has led to serious legal repercussions for Irfan. The State Enforcement Officer and Director of Medical and Rural Health Services issued a notice to him for violating the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC-PNDT) Act. This Act strictly prohibits the determination and disclosure of an unborn baby’s gender in India.

“In a bid to take legal action, the enforcement officer has sent a notice to Mr Irfan. Actions like this could lead to a decline in the birth of girl babies not just in Tamil Nadu but across the country,” the statement read.

Additionally, the health department has requested the Cyber wing of the police to ensure the removal of the controversial video from the internet.
