Thiruvanathapuram: The workers of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) laid siege to cliff house, official residence of the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, demanding his resignation in the solar scam case. This is the third stage of protest by the Left Front in connection with the scam, earlier in August they had laid siege to the secretariat and are taking out black flag protests against the Chief Minister.
What was noticeable was that the Left leaders could not stop mentioning the success of the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi elections. While inaugurating the siege, leader of opposition in Kerala, VS Achuthananda praised AAP and said that a party that was formed less than a year back was capable of bringing down the Congress government in Delhi that was ruling for the past 15 years.
Their election symbol was broom stick. The women in the state are thinking whether they should take the broom sticks to clear Oommen Chandy and Home Minster Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. He called for the resignation of the CM and a detailed enquiry into his role in the solar scam.
The LDF had called for an indefinite cliff house siege and the protest was peaceful on the first day. The police had arrested the workers and leaders.
The solar scam case is that Biju Radhakrishanan and Saritha Nair, directors of Team Solar company duped several people to the tune of Rs 10 crore by promising installation of Solar Panels. The case created a political turmoil in the state as Saritha Nair had access to chief Minister's Office and his personal staff.
