New Delhi: The number of crorepati candidates seems to have gone up in these elections. There are 33 per cent crorepati candidates this time as compared to 23 per cent last time, according to data compiled by Association for Democratic Reforms.
While Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate from Rajouri Garden, is the richest candidate with assets worth Rs 235.51 crore, he is followed by Sushil Gupta of INC from Moti Nagar who has declared assets worth Rs 164 crore. But other parties are also not far behind.
BJP candidate Bijwasan Sat Prakash Rana has a declared worth of around Rs 3 crore, where AAP's Sahzia Ilmi has declared assents worth Rs 30 crore.
While there are candidates who have declared assets worth crores, four candidates have declared zero assets.
BJP's Khushi Ram Chunar from Ambedkar Nagar has the lowest assets worth Rs 8 lakh, Congress's candidate Ragini Nayak from Janakpuri has the lowest asset value in her party at Rs 31 Lakh, whereas AAP candidate from Seemapuri Dhermender Singh Kohli has the lowest assets worth Rs 20,000.
The assets of many sitting MLAs have also increased manifold from the last time they were elected. The data shows that the average assets of the 66 re-contesting MLAs have gone up by Rs 10.43 crore.
The assets of Sat Parakas Rana, BJP candidate from Bijwasan, have increased from Rs 6.38 crores in the 2008 to Rs 111.8 crore in 2013 whereas the assets of Ram Singh Netaji, Congress candidate from Badarpur, have increased by Rs 50 crore. Though parties claim that the asset value of the candidates have increased as the real estate values of their properties have also shot up.
But there are many who haven't declared their IT returns. A total of 308 out of 796 candidates haven't declared their ITR and 117 out of 796 haven't declared their PAN card details. There are 32 candidates who have a liability of over Rs 1 crore.
