The Opposition BJP has fielded its candidate Jagdish Mukhi for the post.
New Delhi: The Congress on Friday said that it will support Aam Aadmi Party speaker candidate Maninder Singh Dhir. Dhir is MLA from Jangpura. The Delhi Assembly will elect its Speaker on Friday. After winning the trust vote with Congress support, ruling AAP looks all set to get its own Speaker too.
Opposition BJP has fielded its candidate Jagdish Mukhi in the election. Mukhi and Dhir are the only candidates left in the fray for the post after the deadline for filing nominations expired on Thursday.
AAP, which has 28 MLAs, needs the backing of seven Congress MLAs to secure the Speaker's post for itself. It can also count on the support of lone JD(U) MLA and an Independent who also backed the confidence motion.
