PUDUCHERRY: The special summary revision of electoral rolls 2012 and preparation of final rolls has begun in Puducherry. According to a release from the district election officer S B Deepak Kumar, this was being done in compliance with the directions of Election Commission of India. All those who are eligible to vote by January 1, 2012 may apply for inclusion of their names in the rolls. The draft electoral roll was issued to all recognised national/state political parties in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Considering January 1, 2010 to January 1, 2011 as the qualifying date, revision of electoral rolls and continuous updating was undertaken between July 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011.As a result of this work, a main roll and supplementary lists I, II were prepared and issued to recognised national/state political parties. Continuous updating was undertaken till September 26, 2011 and as a result, the supplementary III was issued.The DEO provided a copy of III supplementary of electoral roll to the representatives of recognised parties.According to the details, the Union Territory of Puducherry (which includes Puducherry district and Karaikal) has a total of 8,10,015 voters (as on October 17) out of which 4,19,625 are women.Puducherry district, which also includes Mahe and Yanam, has 6,77,254 voters. The number of female voters are 3,49,897 while the male voters are 3,27,352. Karaikal has 1,32,761 voters out of which 69,728 are women.
