Ronaldo spoke openly about the mentality of current manager Erik Ten Hag, and lambasted him for his seemingly timid and unconfident demeanour he has exhibited with regards to United.

How the mighty have fallen. Well, to call United mighty anymore would be a reach, and for Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, it is outrageous to see his beloved Old Trafford crumble over the last decade.

United have hit the equivalent of rock bottom for a club of their stature and history. A decade long drought with regards to the Premier League and any other major European silverware with the exception of one ‘Special One’ who delivered a UEFA Europa League title, United have become one of the biggest laughing stocks of the PL over the last handful of years.

Ronaldo, a United legend in his own right, expressed his love for the club that moulded him and talked about what they would need to do in order to reach their previous heights again.

In fact, Ronaldo spoke openly about the mentality of current manager Erik Ten Hag, and lambasted him for his seemingly timid and unconfident demeanour he has exhibited with regards to United.

“United, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion. The coach (Ten Hag), they say they cannot compete to win the League and Champions League,” Ronaldo told in conversation with Five.

“As Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the League or Champions League. You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.

“This is why Man United need to rebuild”.

Ronaldo though was not one to only complain, but rather share a few potential words of advice for the Dutchman in charge at Old Trafford, telling him to heed to the words of United players from the past who may help lead the side in the right direction again.

“If Ten Hag listens to Ruud van Nistelrooy… maybe he can help. He knows the club and the club should listen the guys who were there, as this is really important,” reinstated the Portuguese.

“Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Sir Alex Ferguson… you need advice from this people. You cannot rebuild a club without knowledge”

And Ten Hag wouldn’t be wrong to perhaps lend an ear to Ronaldo’s words. After all, the Portuguese’s record of 145 goals and 64 assists in 346 games for United remains impressive, as do his three Premier League titles, two League Cups and one Champions League and FA Cup, over the span of seven years with the club.
