BANGALORE: With just less than three months left for the implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka is gearing up for this smooth transition from the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) Act, 1954 to this new scientific and integrated Food Safety and Standard Act 2006.
During an orientation programme of state Food Safety Commissioners in New Delhi between May 23 to 25, Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all the states and Union territories to utilise all available resources for the effective implementation of this Act in their respective regions.Sumedha Desai, director, Health and family Welfare Service who participated in the meeting told Express that the new rules governing food safety and standards will come into effect from August 5.
