BELGAUM: Though rain has slackened in the district, the water level in all the rivers except Markandeya, is rising steadily, as Maharashtra is receiving incessant rains.In Khanapur taluk, the Asoga-Khanapur bridge that was closed for a week was opened on Thursday. Meanwhile, ten bridges are still closed for traffic.The water level in Krishna has risen by three feet as South Maharashtra received heavy downpour. 1.79 lakh cusecs is the inflow to Krishna as Maharashtra has released 14,020 cusecs from Varana reservoir, 79,682 from Rajaram barrage, 1,30,076 from Rajapur barrage and 6,400 from Doodhganga reservoir.The water level in Koyna - the biggest reservoir in Maharashtra - rose by about three TMC as against its capacity of 71.55 TMC recorded on Wednesday. 105 TMC is the capacity of the reservoir.To maintain the level in Krishna, Karnataka has released 1,85,201 cusecs from Alamatti reservoir, the biggest in Karnataka, which is just one metre short of being full as the reading on Thursday was 518.90 metres as against its capacity of 519.60 metres.Water level in Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Doodhganga and Vedaganga rivers have also risen.
