Cuttack: Even as the state government on Friday indicated that there is no scope to review the decision of dismissing former Pipili police inspector, the Odisha Police Association (OPA) has threatened to step up its protest for revocation of the dismissal order.
DGP Manmohan Praharaj had dismissed former inspector-in-charge of Pipili police station, Amulya Kumar Champattiray, for 'dereliction of duty' under Article 311 (2) of the Constitution on January 24.
Champattiray had reportedly refused to register an FIR filed by the father of a gangrape victim in November last year, leading to embarrassment to the state government. A Cabinet minister had to subsequently quit his post.
In an attempt to mount pressure on the government to revoke the dismissal order, the Odisha Police Havildar, Constable and Sepoy Confederation, the largest police body in the state, decided to throw its weight behind the OPA.
It announced that if the need arises, the Confederation would boycott duty during the panchayat elections scheduled next month.
"We would support whatever decision the OPA takes in this matter and on February 6, the Confederation would decide whether it would boycott duty during panchayat polls," Padmanav Behera, confederation president, said.
