New Delhi: The office of profit controversy now threatens to unsettle the BJP.

With the 'save your seat' drama now moving to states, in Jharkhand the NDA Government faces the prospect of an imminent fall with four of its MLAs facing disqualification.

The BJP, while opposing the proposed ordinance at the Centre to redefine offices of profit for elected representatives, did manage to bring in a bill in Jharkhand Assembly on Friday.

But the Opposition Congress MLAs are now strongly protesting against the bill, and demanding the resignation of the four NDA MLAs allegedly holding offices of profit.

Amid protests, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the Assembly sine die on Friday. The new bill passed on Friday redefines the office of profit, which was till now guided by the Bihar Prevention of Disqualification Act passed in 1950.

However, Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi has already recommended the disqualification of four ruling Legislators to the Election Commission for holding offices of profit.

"I have forwarded the different complaints to the Election Commission," Razi said on Friday.

A similar bizarre situation is arising in Bhopal as well, where Congress MLAs are demanding that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan be disqualified as an MP as he's also a Chief Minster, which they claim is an office of profit as he gets an official house and a car

"The Chief Minister is still a Member of Parliament and as Chief Minister he is also enjoying perks like helicopters and planes. He should resign," said Jamuna Devi, a Congress leader.

In Jammu and Kashmir, four Congress MLAs have resigned from the state Assembly. It's the same sycophancy in Maharashtra where Gurudas Kamath sent in his resignation to the Party president though that hasn't been accepted so far.

However, that hasn't stopped him from telling all Congressmen to learn from Sonia Gandhi's example.

What's your reaction?
