CBSE plans to introduce scholarships for girls plus give exams a makeover from the coming year.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to introduce scholarships for girl students, and a string of reforms from the coming year.

This move is aimed to make exams more stress-free and help students perform better.

CBSE would award scholarship of Rs 500 per month for two years till Class XII to any girl child securing more than 60 per cent marks in Class X, Chairman of CBSE Professor Ashok Ganguly said.

"We have made provision for awarding scholarships to 550 such students this year," said Ganguly.

"If we find that the number of eligible candidates are more, we will increase the number of scholarships," he said.

Ganguly said the reforms include restructuring the question papers in all subjects and introducing the grading system from 2008.

"This year we had started some reforms in some specific papers. And it proved beneficial as the result in both Class X and Class XII has been better than the last year," Ganguly said.

"We will extend the reforms to all the papers in the coming year," he said.

CBSE had restructured the question paper patterns for Mathematics, Social Science and Science in Class X, and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Business Studies, Economics and Accountancy in Class XII.

The restructuring of the question papers refers to designing the paper with proper blending of 'accuracy' and 'time' which helps the students answer questions before the allotted time.

CBSE had introduced the internal assessment system which proved to be of immense help for the students, Ganguly said.

The extra time of 15 minutes provided to them for comprehending questions also helped students, he added.
