Two men of Indian origin, Chann Sankaran and Krishan Sanjey Ganeshan, have been arrested for their involvement in alleged fixing in football matches played in England, Hindustan Times reported on Friday.
Sankaran and Ganeshan have been remanded for custody with charges of conspiracy to defraud as part of an international betting syndicate based in Singapore, the daily further said.
The report also mentioned that in all seven people were arrested by Britain's National Crime Agency, but the other five have been released on bail.
The 33-year-old Sankaran is a Singapore national while Ganeshan, 43, holds a dual nationality of the United Kingdom and Singapore. They face a maximum sentence of 10 years' imprisonment. The charge against Sankaran and Ganeshan is conspiracy to defraud, contrary to common law.
