TikTok is the epicentre of many bizarre trends that often confuse those who are not chronically online. The recent addition to the list of bizarre TikTok trends is the slushie trend. The viral trend involves people getting a big glass of slushie from a convenience store and then slamming it onto their big trucks. The trucks in question are the Bubba Trucks. The Bubba Trucks are semi-lifted pickup trucks or trucks fitted with oversized tyres. Usually one could consider throwing a slushie on vehicle vandalism but this trend is prompting truck owners to willingly damage their vehicle, even if it is superficial damage. The song superimposed on slushie trend videos is Bag Season by Jay Lewis, featuring Da Real Gee Money.

There is no clear reasoning behind this trend. Talking about the senselessness of this trend, an X user recently posted, “This throwing a slushie at your car trend makes no sense. I guess for engagement purposes but still." Another said, “If I see you throw a slushie at your car I’m blocking you."

As per the Fast Company, this trend seems to be an opportunity for Bubba Truck owners to show off their vehicles. Additionally, throwing a slushie over your truck signals that the truck is not a “pavement princess", meaning a truck that stays on roads and only serves decoration purposes, instead of being used for actual off-roading.

As per Know Your Meme, the first video of this trend can be traced to TikTok user Brett Michaels who shared a slushie video on January 8, 2024. However, in his video, he simply goes to a gas station and buys a slushie as the song Bag Season plays in the background. Michaels mostly shares videos related to trucks on his TikTok account.

Soon another TikToker named Hunter Boolay shared a video in which he goes to a gas station in his truck and buys a slushie. In his video, he throws the frozen drink on his vehicle. He too uses Bag Season in the video. Unexpectedly this video went viral. Boolay later reacted to the popularity of the trend in one of his TikTok videos and said, “I had no idea this was going to turn into a huge trend. It really just took off. It really just brought the truck community closer. At the end of the day, I’m just waiting for someone to toss a truck at a slushy."
