'Sabse Pehle Isko Samapt Karenge': Ravana's iconic dialogue is an evergreen meme Desis can't stop talking about.

Memes these days are like the heartbeat of social media, injecting humour and content into our online lives. It’s as if a new meme rises with the sun every day. But isn’t there something special about those old, classic, evergreen ones? No matter the occasion, when it’s time to crack a joke, some memes are the tried-and-true templates that keep coming back for an encore. This is precisely what unfolded with Ravana’s famous dialogue from the renowned Ramayan television series by Ramanand Sagar, turning it into a meme that has remained in the viral world ever since.

‘Sabse pehle isko samapt karenge,’ echoed his bold voice not only within the room where people watched it unfold but also resonated across the internet, gifting users a meme they never anticipated. And guess what? This evergreen meme has made a triumphant return on Desi Twitter (now ‘X’), with users infusing it with a ‘Namkeen’ twist that fits seamlessly and perfectly.

“Me to peanuts in namkeen,” humourously shared one user in reference to ‘Sabse pehle isko samapt karenge.’ “Me to Kaju in dry fruit ki plate,” added another. The third one chimed in, “When a Haryanvi sees Ghee!!!” “When a Baniya sees Bhujia,” contributed the fourth, and the banter kept flowing.

After all, who would have predicted that Ravana ki Dahad would endure, all thanks to the ongoing memefest!

Back in the COVID-19 lockdown days, when Indians were glued to their screens indulging in the re-run of various classic shows on television, one show that gained widespread public acceptance was Ramayan, airing on Doordarshan. The younger generation was spotted seizing iconic scenes from the televised show and sparking discussions about them on Twitter during the lockdown.

In one of the episodes, Lakshman faced an injury inflicted by Raavan’s son Indrajeet and needed treatment with a special herb called “Sanjeevani booti.”

Hanuman then undertook the task of fetching the herb from the Himalayas within a night. However, as he failed to identify the said herb, he made the bold decision to lift the entire mountain in his bid to save Lakshman. This iconic scene became an instant hit with netizens, marking the commencement of the meme fest.

And so, the saga of memes from Ramayan continues, weaving its way into the fabric of our digital culture, ensuring that even in the ever-evolving landscape, some things, like a good meme, never get old!
