Tovino Thomas-starrer Nadikar Thilakam Renamed; New Title Announced At Kochi Event
Sivaji Ganeshan's son and actor Prabhu announced the film's new name at the function.

Tovino Thomas’ film Nadikar Thilakam has garnered media attention, particularly due to its title. The title of the film caused a controversy because Tamil star Sivaji Ganesan was referred to as Nadikar Thilagam by his fans for his on-screen versatility. Many of his fans objected to the title of the Malayalam film. In order to not hurt the sentiments of Sivaji Ganesan’s fans, the makers of the film formally altered the title of the film to Nadikar at a grand function in Kochi recently. Sivaji Ganeshan’s son and actor Prabhu announced the film’s new name at the function. The Tamil actor producer thanked the makers of the film, including director Jean Paul Lal, for the courteous move of changing the film title as a sign of respect for his father. “The sobriquet my father was given has a great deal of sentimental significance attached to it,” he said, “ I came to know about the film when some of my father’s fans called me up saying there was a film being made in Kerala in his name. I was surprised and called up Lal only to enquire, I then respectfully asked him if it would be feasible to rename the movie.”

Prabhu said that he had put absolutely no pressure on the team to change the name and had just made a humble request, but was touched by their instant positive response. He also said that the Nadikar Thilakam Shivaji Samooga Nala Peravai’ organisation had written a letter to AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) to change the name of the movie.

Prabhu also spoke about how his father Sivaji Ganesan enjoyed a sizable fan following in Kerala. He also spoke of his father’s association with Mohanlal, Jayaram and Mammootty. He also said that Jean Paul Lal had invited him to attend the name changing ceremony in Kochi, which he gladly accepted.

Apart from Tovino Thomas, Bhavana and Soubin Shahir play integral roles in the film.
