New Delhi: Hailing the Aam Aadmi Party government's maiden budget presented by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Chief Minister Arvind kejriwal on Thursday said that education has been given unprecedented attention and that his government wants to facilitate education for the poor.
"We had promised 500 schools in five years but have already started working on 236 schools in the first year," Kejriwal said.
In the budget, the Kejriwal government hiked the allocation for the education sector by over 106% to Rs 9,836 crore and is also aiming at 100% literacy in Delhi in the next two years.
Delhi government schools will have modern infrastructure and in the first year, pilot projects will be started in 50 schools to improve the quality of education, said Kejriwal.
The government guarantees Rs 10 lakh loan for students to pursue further education after class 12 which will benefit the poor, said Kejriwal
The state government also increased allocation for the health sector by 45% and the central procurement of medicines and equipments will be started soon. Kejriwal added that three new hospitals, 500 moholla clinics will be opened.
