Jangipur (West Bengal): The Congress would sort out through talks its misunderstandings with partner Trinamool Congress on the operations against Maoists in West Bengal's Lalgarh area, Finance Minister and Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday.
Mukherjee said he would speak to Trinamool Congress chief and Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has expressed her unhappiness over being kept in the dark on the operations carried out by the central and state security forces in West Midnapore's Lalgarh area.
"I will talk to Mamata Banerjee. If there is any understanding, we will remove it through talks," Mukherjee told reporters while on a tour to his constituency Jangipur.
He said the "misunderstandings" would have no bearing on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
"She has herself said there will be no impact on the alliance," Mukherjee pointed out.
Trinamool Congress, which is the second largest partner of the UPA after the Congress, has 20 Lok Sabha MPs.
"We have worked for you during the elections. We won't break the alliance. We will strengthen it. But you must believe us, and not the (state's ruling Left Front major) Communist Party of India-Marxist," Banerjee had said Sunday at a party programme.
She asked the central government to declare three Maoist areas of influence -- West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts -- as disturbed areas and to initiate measures for restoring peace and giving relief to people.
She has also demanded joint operations by the central and security forces in several areas of the state where the CPI-M had let loose a reign of terror, including Arambagh, Garbeta and Keshpur.
