Munger: After the attack on its Nalanda candidate Pranav Prakash by a group of unidentified men during an election campaign on Sunday night, the Aam Aadmi Party has now alleged that some strongmen and criminal elements belonging to rival parties were trying to intimidate voters in the Munger Lok Sabha constituency where polling will take place on April 17.
The party's Bihar unit has complained to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Chief Election Officer, Bihar, District Magistrates of Patna and Munger alleging "criminal intimidation of voters" by Lok Janshakti Party candidate Veena Devi's husband Suraj Bhan Singh and Janata Dal United MLA Anant Singh in Munger Lok Sabha constituency.
AAP leaders allege that Suraj Bhan Singh, who has been convicted in a murder case and barred from contesting elections, has hired many criminal elements who are threatening voters in rural areas to vote for his wife or face dire consequences after elections.
JDU Barh MLA Anant Singh is also adopting the same tactics to terrorise the voters, claims AAP Bihar State Campaign Committee Convenor Basant Kumar Choudhary.
The party has also asked the state administration to immediately act against the alleged intimidation for a "free and fair election in Munger".
AAP has put up an engineer Sandeep Kumar, 28, from Munger where he is facing JDU sitting MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, LJP's Veena Devi and Pragati Mehta of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
