Afghanistan stunned the cricketing world yet again with another clinical win in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. On Monday, they defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to register their third win in the tournament which took them to the fifth spot on the tally with 6 points. It’s the first time in the history of Afghanistan cricket that the team had more than one victory in an ODI World Cup, putting them above the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England on the table.

Pathan has been all praise for Afghanistan who are pushing themselves for a semi-final spot. The former Indian all-rounder had expressed his joy when the Afghan Atalans stunned defending champions England in Delhi and then thumped Pakistan, for the first time in ODI history, in Chennai. Pathan danced with Rashid Khan on the ground after Afghanistan outsmarted the Babar Azam-led side.
Lesson from Jonathan Trott
Speaking at the post-match show, Afghanistan captain Shahidi revealed how head coach Jonathan Trott helped him bring out the best as a captain and a player.
“Quite happy and proud of the team. Happy for the way we performed in all 3 departments. Last game gave us lot of confidence and belief that we can chase any kind of target. It was a very professional performance from the bowlers today. All the coaching and managing staff are working hard and giving us confidence,” Shahidi said.
“Especially Jonathan (Trott) he is always positive, before the Pakistan game he told me one word and that changed my mindset a lot. As a captain, you should lead from the front and that’s what I am trying to do, I will try to maintain that in the rest of the tournament,” he added.
