Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has flown back to Bangladesh in the middle of the World Cup to train with his mentor Nazmul Abedeen Faheem. The Bangla Tigers have had a tough campaign so far in the tournament. After defeating Netherlands in their opening game, they suffered four losses on the trot and are reeling at the 9th spot with just 2 points.
Bangladesh are scheduled to play their next two games at the Eden Gardens – against Netherlands on October 29 and Pakistan on October 31. Ahead of the must-win games, skipper Shakib Al Hasan decided to head back home to Dhaka for a short training session with his mentor while the rest of the team arrived in Kolkata.

As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Shakib landed in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon – just a day after their humiliating defeat at the hands of South Africa by 149 runs in Mumbai. He went straight to the Shere Bangla National Stadium to train with Faheem. The first session lasted about three hours and mainly comprised of throwdowns.
“He arrived today. We will be training for three days. Today, tomorrow and day after, and then he will return to Kolkata. We worked on his batting today,” Faheem was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
Shakib, a veteran all-rounder, has majorly struggled with the bat in the ongoing World Cup with just 56 runs in four innings. He has managed to pick 6 wickets in 5 matches.
“Shakib probably feels comfortable working this way,” Faheem said. “I am not sure what we are going to do next – I will take each session as he wants.”
The report further stated that Shakib will join the Bangladesh squad on October 27, on the eve of their World Cup match against the Netherlands. The game will see two teams from the bottom of the table getting into a game which will decide their fate in the tournament. Both sides have played 5 games so far but have managed just 1 win.
