'Most Uncomplicated Batter to Have Played': Venkatesh Prasad Hails Virender Sehwag After His Induction in ICC Hall of Fame
Venkatesh Prasad lauded Virender Sehwag and said he is the most uncomplicated batter to have played the game.

Veteran pacer Venkatesh Prasad heaped praise on legendary India batter Virender Sehwag who was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame – Class of 2023 on Monday.

Sehwag is the only Indian to score two triple centuries as he amassed 8586 runs in 104 Test matches.

Sehwag brought up India’s first Test triple-century in March 2004 with a six against Pakistan, and four years later he again passed the 300 mark against South Africa at Chennai from just 278 balls. He almost made it three Test triple centuries the following year, but fell seven runs short against Sri Lanka at Mumbai.

He was also a pivotal figure in India’s 2007 T20 WC and 2011 ODI World Cup winning campaign, and his record-breaking career spanned 14 years.

The veteran opener also smashed a double century in ODIs – 219 against the West Indies in 2011. He was key in India’s march to victory in the 2011 WC, striking 175 in the opening game against Bangladesh and displaying his trademark explosive approach by hitting boundaries from the first ball of India’s innings on five separate occasions.

Prasad lauded Sehwag and said he is the most uncomplicated batter to have played the game.

“2 test triple hundreds and nearly a 3rd one, setting up so many victories, selfless whether denying a single on 199 or hitting a 6 on 295, a test SR higher than many ODI greats SR and probably the most uncomplicated batter to have played the game. Congrats @virendersehwag @ICC,” Prasad wrote on X.

Sehwag also thanked the cricket governing body and jury for honouring him.

“I would like to thank the ICC and the jury for inducting me with this honour.

“I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’.

“I would also like to thank my family, friends, people I played with, and countless people who prayed for me selflessly,” he added.
