Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vocal for local” movement this Diwali is gaining momentum across the country, with a host of celebrities and industry leaders praising and adopting the initiative.

In the video shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Prime Minister this week called on people to ensure that their priority during festivals is “vocal for local”. “Let us together fulfil our dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

He urged people to try to insist on using the UPI digital payment system to make payments. He also asked them to share selfies with local products or artisans on his NaMo App through a made-in-India smartphone. The PM said he will share some of these pictures on social media to inspire others to be vocal for local. “The vocal for local movement is getting great momentum across the country,” he said.

In a post on X, philanthropist and Biocon Limited Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said: “Love the #VocalForLocal mission and the creativity coming along with it! Kudos to PM @narendramodi…”

On Instagram, actor Rupali Ganguly said she is “extremely grateful to be associated with a cause that is dear to our honorable Prime Minister”.

“The #VocalForLocal movement is getting great momentum across the country. For me this is the proudest moment. Humbled, overwhelmed and extremely grateful to be associated with a cause that is dear to our honorable Prime Minister,” she said.

Actor Anupam Kher shared a video of students participating in the vocal for local campaign.

Actor and performer Varun Sharma encouraged the use of khadi, saying the fabric is not just a piece of cloth for Indians, but a symbol of the Indian spirit.

Actor Bhumi Pednekar rooted for Indian craftsmanship in an Instagram post. “Indian craftsmanship is one of the best in the world. Let’s celebrate our own heritage and join our PM Shri @narendramodi ji in spreading happiness across as many families as we can. Happy Diwali,” she said.

On Friday, Prime Minister Modi said supporting ayurveda is a vibrant example of being “vocal for local” and added the ancient treatment is furthering new paths to wellness.

In a post on X to mark Ayurveda Day, which falls on the day of Dhanteras, the PM said: “It is an occasion to salute the innovators and practitioners who are blending this ancient knowledge with modernity, propelling ayurveda to new heights globally.”

“From groundbreaking research to dynamic startups, ayurveda is furthering new paths to wellness. Supporting ayurveda is also a vibrant example of being vocal for local,” he said.
