Hinting at possible “foreign interest” in fuelling unrest in Manipur, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Tuesday that “cultural Marxists reward, promote, spread anarchy and indiscretion”, especially, during the run-up to the state and general elections.
Bhagwat was speaking at RSS’ annual Dussehra and Vijaya Dashami programme held in Nagpur early Tuesday. Music maestro Shankar Mahadevan was the chief guest for the event.
RSS has a tradition of inviting celebrated individuals from multiple social political disciplinary fields. Last year, RSS had its first woman chief guest — Santosh Yadav, an acclaimed mountaineer.
In 2018, in an unexpected political twist, the country saw former President Pranab Mukherjee addressing the RSS’ Dusshera event in Nagpur, while in 2017, the organisation called Sant Nirmal Das Maharaj, a Dalit Sikh religious leader from Jalandhar, as the chief guest.
As an apparent push towards the southern state by both RSS and BJP, Shankar Mahadevan’s entry to the long list of chief guests carries social and political significance, said political experts.
Manipur: The Focal Point
While talking about the current conflict in Manipur, Bhagwat expressed his concern about the chronology of the series of events that happened in Manipur over the past six months.
“Manipur, which had been peaceful for almost a decade, has suddenly seen mutual discord and conflict. Who has a vested interest in trying to disturb the atmosphere? Which are the forces that are attempting to trigger hatred and violence by causing an incident as soon as any positive step is taken for peace?” he asked.
Throwing his weight around the N Biren Singh-led government and praising efforts taken by home minister Amit Shah, Bhagwat further said, “Despite a strong government in the country, on whose strength this violence has continued unabated for so many days? Why did this violence break out and continue even though there was a state government that wanted to maintain the peace that had been going on for the last nine years?”
“Union home minister Amit Shah took swift and strong actions, he spent three days in the state and sent several senior officers and ministers to bring peace there. The government has political and administrative will to resolve the issues. In today’s situation, when people on both sides of the conflict are seeking peace, what are the forces that can incite hatred and violence by causing an accident as soon as any positive step is seen being taken in that direction?” he said.
Geo-Political Conspiracy
Bhagwat also raised questions about an alleged attempt to drag the RSS into the conflict and criticise their role in triggering the violence. “Who has a vested interest in trying to drag an organisation like Sangh, which has been engaged in serving everyone with equal vision for years, into this without any reason? Which foreign powers may be interested in taking advantage of such unrest and instability in Manipur, located between Nagabhoomi and Mizoram in this border area? Does the geopolitics of Southeast Asia also have a role in the causal traditions of these events?” he asked.
“Were there extremists from across the border also among those who committed violence? Why and by whom was there an attempt to give a communal form to this mutual conflict between the Manipuri Meitei community and the Kuki community, who were apprehensive about the future of their existence?” he further added expressing his concern about a probable geo-political conspiracy by the foreign powers who do not want to see Bharat thriving.
Reiterating that RSS’ endeavour has always been to keep everyone safe, organised, harmonious and peaceful by accepting everyone as its own, “entailing great sacrifices”, Bhagwat said RSS is “proud of the Swayamsevaks and activists, who made tremendous efforts in a calm and composed manner to help and take care of everyone in this terrible and disturbing situation in Manipur”.
Cultural Marxist and ‘Wokeness’
Calling communists as a “destructive force”, Bhagwat said they call themselves “woke” or “cultural Marxists” who are “apparently working to achieve an ideal goal”, but in reality they only disrupt progress across the globe. “They claim to be Marxists, but they had disassociated themselves from Marxist ideas long back. Now, they only indulge into selfish, deceitful and discriminatory ideas to disrupt India’s progress, social harmony and cohesion and promote conflict. They wear various cloaks,” he said.
“Cultural Marxists reward, promote, spread anarchy and indiscretion. Their modus operandi involve taking control of the media and academia, and plunging education, culture, politics and social environment into confusion, chaos, and corruption. This style of functioning which creates disbelief, confusion and poison minds of people is called ‘Mantra Viplav’ as per Chanakya Neeti,” he added.
He further said the right answer to ‘Mantra Viplav’ can be found only through the unity of the society. Terming ‘victimhood’ as another trend in the society, Bhagwat said in a democracy like India, everyone is equal. “There can be some inequality, but that can happen to everyone and it is not targeted anyone particular. We, as a nation, should not fall prey to such provocations,” he said.
