Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Monday witnessed a huge crowd ahead of the Chhath Puja festivities and amid Diwali celebrations. Most passengers were at the railway station to board the train for Raxaul.
A video shared by the news agency PTI shows passengers clogging and thronging the station platform with heavy luggage even before the train arrived.

Similarly, a stampede-like situation occurred at Gujarat’s Surat Railway station on Sunday as people rushed into the town for Diwali celebrations. The incident resulted in the death of one person earlier.
Passengers rushed to board the Tapti Ganga Express train from Surat railway station in the morning, causing chaos in which some people fainted, Superintendent of Police (Western Railway) Sarjo Kumari said.
There was a huge rush at the railway station, because of which some passengers suffered panic attacks and dizziness, she said. One of the passengers suffered a heart complication, and a policeman present on the platform performed CPR on him before he was rushed to a hospital in an ambulance, the official said.
Special Trains Ahead of Chhath Puja
The East Coast Railway will run a special train between Puri in Odisha and Bihar’s capital Patna given the festive rush ahead of Chhath Puja, an official said on Monday.
The 08449 Puri-Patna Special train will leave Puri at 11.30 pm on Monday and Wednesday, he said.
On the return journey, the 08450 Patna-Puri Special will leave Patna at 6 pm on Tuesday and Thursday, he added.
Rituals for the Chhath Puja will begin on November 17, and continue till November 20.
The Western Railways also announced that they had made the arrangements for running special trains from Surat and Udhna in Gujarat because of the festive season.
Railways also said that personnel from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force have been deployed for security and crowd management, HT reported.
