BTS fans, known as ARMY, are known for observing every activity of their favourite K-pop group. Recently, the youngest BTS member, Jungkook, sparked excitement among fans by teasing a surprise for his New York City followers. The official page of the boy band had announced a surprise but they didn’t share the exact details. The excitement reached its peak as the Golden Maknae actually appeared in Times Square’s biggest billboard stage TSX. Thousands gathered at the iconic location to witness the spectacle, which was organised as a promotional activity for Jungkook’s latest solo album, Golden. For the evening, the South Korean artist sang songs from the album, including Standing next to you, yes or no, 3D, Please Don’t Change and Seven.

Jungkook’s surprise concert happened followed by his appearance at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City on November 8. Fans have flooded social media platforms with videos of JK’s electrifying performance at the billboard, featuring popular tracks from the recent album. The singer kicked off the show with Standing Next to You and before diving into the next song, Yes or No, Jungkook took a moment to thank his fans and said, “Wow this place is amazing and it’s an honour to perform out here at New York Time Square and for you.”

While making an appearance on NBC’s Today Show, Jungkook hinted at a surprise event, but kept specific details about the location and performance a secret. On the same day, fans observed changes on the TSX billboard, as multiple clips featured JK’s Calvin Klein advertising and it was playing on a loop.

In a statement, Nick Holmsten, the co-CEO of TSX Entertainment, said it was an honour in creating a historic moment for Jungkook and the entire BTS group. He added, “His solo journey has already made history with multiple chart-topping singles, and we’re fully confident that this album will continue the trend.”

According to Rolling Stones, Jungkook’s live performance on BTS’ YouTube channel and an Xbox livestream reached an impressive milestone, with over 280,000 viewers tuning in from the comfort of their homes.

Reportedly, Jungkook has secured the top spot in first week album sales for any K-Pop solo artist in Hanteo Chart history. His debut solo album Golden, released on November 3, sold over 2,438,483 copies. Interestingly, the album has surpassed the first week sales of fellow BTS member V’s album Layover, making it the best selling album by a K-Pop solo artist.
