Former captain Sourav Ganguly, who is currently monitoring Delhi Capital’s training camp in Kolkata, recalled India’s tour of Pakistan in 2004

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has sent his best wishes to Pakistan’s people and the cricket fraternity who are disappointed with the team’s exit from the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. On Saturday, defending champions England beat Babar Azam & Co by 93 runs to finish their campaign and secure a Champions Trophy berth. While the men in green finished the tournament with a no. 5 rank and 8 points, England bowed out being 7th on the tally with 6 points.

Ganguly, who is currently monitoring Delhi Capital’s training camp in Kolkata, spoke to Pakistan’s A Sports and recalled India’s tour to the neighbouring nation in 2004. The former Indian captain also sent his best wishes to the panellists Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik and Moin Khan.

“I still remember that 2004 tour of Pakistan. What a tour it was, the memories are still fresh in my mind. Wasim Bhai is there, Misbah, Shoaib and Moin Khan… Moin has grown too old, his hair has turned grey. Colour them, like we do. It will look good,” Ganguly told A Sports.

The ex-BCCI chief gave a special mention to Wasim Akram, appreciating his unfiltered reaction to Pakistan players’ performance.

“It’s good to see Wasim bhai at home. Earlier, it felt like he has roller skates fixed to his legs. Because someday he was in Delhi, the next day he was in Mumbai, or Pakistan or South Africa. But now he is spending some time with his family. His kids have grown up. I saw the picture of his son on Instagram. He’s more handsome than him,” Ganguly said.

“I follow the show and I like the way Wasim bhai scolds the Pakistan players. Love to everyone,” he added.

DC Camp in Kolkata

Ganguly has been monitoring Delhi Capitals’ pre-season camp in Kolkata and has revealed that Rishabh Pant could mark his return to the cricket field – after a horrific life-threatening car accident – during the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

DC are currently training at the Jadavpur University second Campus Cricket Association of Bengal ground in Salt Lake, Kolkata. Pant was spotted at the venue on Thursday, and he will be in the city of joy until November 11 confirmed Ganguly to India Today.

“Rishabh Pant is in good shape. He will play from next season. He will not practice now. He is here till 11th November. We discussed the team with Pant as he is the captain of the team, considering the upcoming auctions,” Ganguly was quoted as saying in the report.
