KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday urged the CPM to withdraw its agitation against the Judiciary. Declaring an agitation against the judiciary, when there is scope to go for an appeal, as in the case of M V Jayarajan, will lead to the weakening of the judicial system. “This will be the first time a political party would be going on strike against the Judiciary,” he said. He was speaking at a press conference held in Kochi.Speaking about the Piravom by-election, the chief minister said that the government was ready to face the elections. Just as how the people rate the government, they will rate the opposition too. He said he was completely confident of winning the election with a huge majority. All suicides in Wayanad cannot be considered farmer suicides, he said. The government will take required action after receiving an official report, he said. A three-member group headed by Additional Chief Secretary V Jayakumar will visit Wayanad for this, he said. The government will bring about significant changes in all 14 districts once the Public Interaction Programme is complete, he said. He expressed his delight at the wholehearted participation of the people in these programmes. The Public Interation Programme will be held in Ernakulam on November 19, he said. The Chief Minister will hold a meeting with Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on the 21st of this month in New Delhi to discuss various issues including Vallarpadom dredging, shipping channel and Vizhinjam Port. The central government has sanctioned the development of a new port for the state and Kannur’s Azhikkal has been selected for it, he said.
