Coming down heavily on the Delhi government's policy of odd and even car formula, the Delhi High Court has asked why women and two-wheelers have been given exemption in the scheme. The Delhi government has been asked to respond to the notice by January 6, 2016.
Starting January 1, 2016, the odd and even car number formula will be applied in Delhi on a trial basis for 15 days with an aim to curb pollution in the national capital. "From January 1, 2016, odd number cars will be allowed on odd dates and even number cars on even dates. The scheme will not be applicable for Sundays but on other days, it will be implemented from 8 am to 8 pm," Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said. Those violating the scheme will be fined for Rs 2,000.
Those who are exempted from the scheme are the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India, Lok Sabha Speaker, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Leaders of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, Chief Ministers of state and union territories except Delhi, Governors of State, Lt Governors of Union Territories, Union Ministers, Judges of Supreme Court, judges of Delhi High Court and Lokayukta.
Apart from the above, single women drivers, women drivers with a child up to the age of 12; emergency vehicles, ambulance, fire, hospital, prison, hearse, enforcement vehicles; Vehicles of paramilitary forces, vehicles of defence, pilot and escort; vehicles of SPG protectees; vehicles bearing diplomatic corps registration numbers; vehicles of the physically challenged; CNG vehicles with certification of IGL and electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles
