KOCHI: The vacancies in various departments of the Corporation are likely to be filled by next week. A top official from the Corporation said the government had promised the civic body that the existing vacancies would be filled before the end of June.“There are nearly 30 vacancies in various departments. These include the vacancies to the posts of health officer, Corporation engineer and assistant engineer. We have already informed the authorities about the crisis,” Corporation health standing committee chairman T K Ashraf said.He said that Industry Minister P K Kunhalikkutty and Social Welfare and Panchayat Minister M K Muneer had given assurance to the Corporation authorities that the vacancies would be filled on a priority basis. Ashraf said the Corporation had faced severe difficulties last year owing to the shortage of medical officers and junior engineers. “During the tenure of the last council, the recruitments were in a frozen state. The new council finds it difficult to complete many projects in a time-bound manner owing to the shortage of staff. However, the decision by the new government to make appointments will help the Corporation to implement major projects,” he said. He said the Corporation had also sought appointment librarians in the major libraries under it.
