CHENNAI: A writ plea from the members of the Chennai Fire Works Dealers Welfare Association to permit them to carry on their trade in the areas of Parrys and Esplanade was rejected by Madras High Court, on Tuesday. The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam, which rejected the plea, told the traders to go to Island Grounds. The bench was dismissing a writ appeal from the association on Tuesday. It directed the authorities to expedite the allotment and grant temporary licence.Last week, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar had directed the Chennai Corporation and the City Police Commissioner to identify and allot shops to the traders in Island Grounds by October 18. Alleging that there wasn’t sufficient time for the lengthy process, the association filed the present appeal.Dismissing it, the bench directed the traders to apply to the police for licence by 11 am on Wednesday and directed the police to allot sites by 6 pm the same day.
