HYDERABAD: An organisation committed to promote, nurture and nourish classical performing arts and cultural traditions of India, Riwaayat, was launched in the city on Tuesday. “We are proud to announce the launch of our first event, a two-day music festival, under the Riwaayat banner — Riwaayat-e-Maihar, to be held in the city on August 13 and 14,” said Hari Kiran Vadlamani, founder president of Riwaayat. This endeavor is a tribute to Acharya Alauddin Khan Saheb, the founder of Senia-Maihar gharãnã and his daughter GuruMaa Annapurna Deviji. Riwaayat-e-Maihar would present concerts by disciples of Annapurna Deviji with focus on the musical tradition of Acharya Alauddin Khan Saheb (Baba). He further added, “We understand the onus on us to preserve the cultural traditions of India and promote our vast heritage of music, art and culture. That is why we decided to set up the foundation. Riwaayat (Tradition) is the continuation of tradition which is an ongoing dynamic process. In order to ensure that our efforts reach wide audiences and to maximise our impact we plan to take our concept to other cities in India over a period of time and showcase various schools of Music, Dance & Culture”.
