Five persons were killed when a bus fell into the Ganga River from a height of about 300 metres at Saknidhar in Tehri district early on Wednesday morning. The roadways bus carrying 52 passengers was on its way from Delhi to Guptkashi when the mishap occurred at Saknidhar between Vyasi and Devprayag in the district at 6.15 AM, a police official in Devprayag said.

Five bodies have been recovered while rescue teams are searching for the bus which seems to have been swept away by the strong currents of the mighty river, he said. The bodies are yet to be identified, the official said, adding that the toll may rise as there were 52 passengers travelling in the bus and it has not yet been sighted.
