Telugu Desam leader and former MLA from Nalgonda district Sankineni Venkateswara Rao called on YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Chanchalguda central prison here on Monday, fuelling speculation that he will join the YSRCP soon.
According to sources, YSRCP’s Allagadda legislator Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy, who was in the TDP in the past, accompanied Rao to Jagan.
As soon as the news spread that Venkatewara Rao called on Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Telugu Desam placed him under supsenion for “anti-party activities”.
Venkateswara Rao is said to be not very comfortable in the TDP with Thungathurthi legislator Motkupalli Narasimulu hogging all the importance in the party. Thugathurthi had earlier been represented by Venkateswara Rao. After the constituency was reserved for SCs, he moved to Suryapet but was defeated there by Congress candidate R Damodar Reddy. Recently, Venkateswara Rao called on YSR Congress senior leader and former TDP MP MV Mysoora Reddy and expressed his desire to join the YSR Congress.
Apart from Venkateswara Rao, the TDP may have to watch out for Bhongir MLA Uma Madhava Reddy’s son Sandeep Reddy who is also said to be keen on joining the YSRC. After he met YSR Cong leader YV Subba Reddy in August, there was speculation that he might jump on the Jagan bandwagon but his mother dismissed the meeting as one with no political significance.
The TDP sources say that as Naidu will not support the Telangana demand, Uma’s son may join the YSRC.
