KOCHI: The inauguration of Suchithwa Varsham 2011-12 of the Kochi Corporation will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium ground at Kaloor on Friday. In connection with Suchithwa Varsham programme, the civic body will take steps to set up health clubs in all schools under its limit. Similarly, by joining hands with Residents’ Apex Council Ernakulam (RACE) and Ernakulam District Residents’ Association Apex Council (EDRAAC), health clubs will also be set up at residential complexes.As part of the Suchithwotsavam, the Corporation will launch another programme to set up waste processing units in every residential apartment complex. If successfully implemented, Kochi will become the first city in the country to have a waste processing unit at every flat complex. The programme will be launched in association with CREDAI Kochi. The agency so far has successfully installed waste treatment facilities in 111 flats out of the total 197 flats in the city. The remaining apartment complexes will be included in the second phase that will begin in 2012.The Kochi Corporation will also ban the use of plastic with thickness below 40 microns, within the corporation limits from January 16, 2012 onwards. “Stringent action will be taken against those who violate the ban,” Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee chairman T K Ashraf said.JNNURM projectsThe inauguration of three major works under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will also be held on Friday. The works include the renovated Sahodaran Ayyappan Road, Edappally-High Court Road and the Elamkulam Puthenpalam. Union Minister K V Thomas will inaugurate the new facilities while Excise Minister K Babu will be the chief guest. Mayor Tony Chammany will preside over the function.
