Salman Khan@46: The ageless entertainer
Salman Khan@46: The ageless entertainer
Critics are not tired of portraying Salman as someone who doesn't know how to act but this tenderness is his USP.

New Delhi: Not many people complained when the makers of 'Ek Tha Tiger' postponed the release of the film to Eid, 2012 instead of previously scheduled June 1 premier. Salman Khan's loyal fan base couldn’t ask for a better Eid celebration.

Riding on the success waves of 'Wanted', 'Dabangg', 'Ready' and 'Bodyguard', the actor will return to the silver screen with Kabir Khan's 'Ek Tha Tiger'.

The year 2011 has been phenomenal for Salman Khan who has emerged as the new Rajinikanth of the Hindi cinema. Internet is the best place to check his popularity. The unofficial blogs and websites run by his fans get more hits than prominent film websites. Fake 'Being Human' t-shirt comment made by Khan on Bigg Boss gets more publicity than Sunny Leone's pole dancing.

This year has raised Salman's status from an ultra hero to a superhero. Probably Rajinikanth is the only other actor alive at this time who could have turned films like 'Ready' and 'Bodyguard' into such hugely successful ventures.

The Khan trinity still rules the game and they don't look to leave the arena any time soon. Among themselves, Shah Rukh and Aamir are more media friendly and easily available, which give them an edge over Salman, but the niche fan base tilts the race in favour of Salman. These are the people who keep mum during a debate about meaningful cinema but are the first ones to pull out their wallets whenever a 'Ready' or a 'Bodyguard' releases.

Salman is not meant for any happy-go-lucky image. The new age audiences might have forgotten the black buck case or the footpath case but the references made by 24 hour media inspire them to think Salman as a brutal but fun loving macho man.

On the other hand, the very same opinion leaders report about Salman's philanthropic deeds and the audiences get confused about what stand to take.

Finally the outcome creates a persona which is short tempered and sadist but has a golden heart. The common youth, developed along with a consumerist society, starts to identify with this image simply because of the immense mental pressure he enjoys every day.

There is either a family or a business venture to support other actors of his age but Salman doesn't have any of the two privileges. This compels the actor to look for a steady relationship which invariably ends up in a disaster. It's the good luck that has made him one of the most bankable actors of Bollywood because film wise he has not experimented much, neither he has shown the courage to take up challenging tasks.

Critics are not tired of portraying Salman as someone who doesn't know how to act but this tenderness is his USP. Dabangg's spontaneous dancing was any day catchier than sophisticated dancing skills displayed by other actors.

His fans defend Salman in the name of entertainment. For them, Khan is someone who acts for pure entertainment. Further many newcomers praise him for the unconditional help he offers. This also establishes his image of an angry young man trapped in a big bad film world.

His emotional outbursts in 'Tere Naam' appeared to describe his inner state. His reluctance to marry gives fodder for thought but most importantly it gives female fans a reason to feel good about. It may sound dim-witted but his single status fetches acceptance for the actor in certain quarters despite a bad image.

The actor is turning 46 on December 27 but the market still refuses to believe it. Salman will remain the moody, stylish and restless soul in coming months but who cares till he keeps entertaining the fans.

IBNLive wishes Salman Khan a very happy birthday.####
