KOCHI: Promising inclusive development of the Panambukad Ambedkar Colony at Mulavukad panchayat, the Legislative Committee on the Welfare of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes, headed by V P Sajeendran MLA, decided to expedite infrastructure developments in the island. After a detailed meeting at Government Guest House, which was attended by the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), District Town Planning Officer and other department officials concerned, the committee members visited Ambedkar Colony. After the visit, committee chairman V P Sajeendran said steps would be taken to expedite the work on the `18-crore ring road project, which will start from the Goshree Bridge at Vallarpadam. The road will pass through the coastal area via Bolgatty bridge and end at Vallarpadam bridge. “About 80 percent of the problems faced by colony inmates will be solved once the road project is implemented. Funds have already been allocated. We are waiting for the administrative sanction. Steps will be taken to get the nod as soon as possible,” Sajeendran told Express. He added that the committee would submit a detailed report to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for an inclusive development of the colony. “We are planning to implement it in a special government package. The District Collector will co-ordinate the process,” said Sajeendran. “The ring road will provide more facilities to the residents. The development of pocket roads is also crucial,” said the colony inmates who approached the committee with grievances. The committee assured them that necessary steps would be taken to develop road connectivity there.“The SC/ST funds got lapsed for the past 13 years owing to the lack of infrastructure facilities in the colony. For the last year alone, an amount of `55 lakh got lapsed. The colony inmates failed to get approval for building their houses as the area is under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ),” said Mulavukad Panchayat president A K Dinakaran. The colony inmates expect a boost in the developmental activities once the pockets roads are developed and linked with the proposed ring road. Committee members A P Abdullakutty, K Ajith, I C Balakrishnan, Purushan Kadalundi, N Shamsudheen and V M Ummar Master were also present at the meeting.
