Late reports reaching here said that several trees in parts of Sakleshpur taluk were uprooted due to strong wind.MangaloreDakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner in a proposal submitted on Monday urged the government to release Rs 5 crore to expedite relief work in rain-affected areas in the district.Deputy Commissioner N S Channappa Gowda in his proposal pegged the total loss at Rs 2,170.27 lakh. As many as 12 houses were completely destroyed, 56 houses were damaged and 142 houses were partially damaged.Over 1.35 acres of paddy fields were destroyed resulting in a loss of Rs 570 lakh. Estimating the loss to public property, the DC pointed out that it would take Rs 1,707 lakh to restore the roads and Rs161 lakh for repairing bridges. Heavy rainfall resulted in slush accumulating on tracks at Pomendi, disrupting train services on Konkan Railway route. A youth was washed away in Varada river near Chandragutti in Sorab taluk on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh, 18, a resident of Holemarur. He was washed away in the swelling river when he took the cattle to the river. Fire tender staff and police were pressed into service to trace the body. Tahasildar Prabhakara Deshpande, ZP member Gurukumar Patel, among others, visited the spot.
