PUDUCHERRY: Breaking his silence over AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa’s charge that AINRC had betrayed her party after the assembly polls, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday openly thanked his Tamil Nadu counterpart for her help in his party’s election victory.Winding up the discussion on the motion of thanks to the LG’s address in the Assembly, he said it was Jayalalithaa’s support that led to the the victory of the AIADMK-AINRC alliance and his becoming the CM.He said that Jayalalithaa had announced him as chief ministerial candidate. Rangasamy said that Jayalalithaa had greeted him after the recent election victory, as she had done when he became the Chief Minister for the first time in 2001. “People wanted a change in governance and hence have voted for the alliance,” he said. However, he disagreed with AIADMK floor leader A Anbazhagan’s remark that the AINRC had betrayed them after the party got 18 seats and formed a government excluding Congress by taking the support of an independent candidate. He said that no one has been betrayed by him. “You know the circumstances and how it has happened. You have acted in haste.”After the formation of the government, Jayalalithaa had accused Rangasamy of political betrayal, stating that he had dishonoured the pre-poll agreement of power sharing. She accused him of backstabbing her. Rangasamy had been keeping silence on the issue, claiming that he would meet Jayalalithaa to clear the air. But the meeting is yet to take place.
