Mumbai: The Maharashtra Governor on Thursday suspended state Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari over alleged involvement in the adarsh society scam.
Tiwari so far has been refusing to quit despite being asked to do so by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
The government had asked Tiwari to quit the post on moral grounds but he rejected the suggestion and instead applied for a three-month leave, which was turned down by the Governor.
Tiwari was the urban development secretary when the controversial adarsh society was given the go-ahead.
Tiwari has all along said he is innocent.
The development came two days after the Governor had made a reference to the Supreme Court for removal of the former bureaucrat.
Earlier this month, the state cabinet requested Governor K Shankarnarayan to recommend Tiwari's removal to the Supreme Court for misconduct.
