Rahul Gandhi has done "exceedingly well and has delivered what he has promised" in Amethi, Congress said on Monday dismissing any threat to him in the Lok Sabha polls in the family pocket borough.
"He has done exceedingly well and has delivered what he has promised (in Amethi). I had hoped that your question would be a serious one," party General Secretary Mukul Wasnik told reporters. He was brushing aside a query that the party was likely to offer a Rajya Sabha ticket from Assam to Sanjay Singh, now Lok Sabha member from Sultanpur in UP, so that he can help Rahul in Amethi.
"I don't know from where you pick up all these things...," he told the questioner, who said Rahul was in 'trouble' in Amethi. Wasnik also made light of a query whether Sonia Gandhi will also be in trouble in Rae Bareli as Aam Aadmi Party is planning to put up a candidate there like it has made Kumar Vishwas a nominee in Amethi.
"I do not know with how much seriousness you have asked the question," he remarked. Replying to another question on the delay in naming a judge for an inquiry into the Snoopgate issue allegedly involving Narendra Modi, Wasnik expressed confidence that the government has the "will and the capability to deliver on its decisions".
On December 26 last year, government had announced appointment of a commission of inquiry into the "snooping" on a woman in Gujarat allegedly at the behest of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Modi. Reports quoting official sources had it last week that a few judges have been approached by the government to take up the assignment, but all of them are said to have turned down the offer describing the case as "highly political".
Congress as also the government have faced many embarrassing questions over the failure to name a judge a month after announcement of the inquiry.
