New Delhi: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Monday took up the issue of Indian fugitives Christian Michelle and Vijay Mallya with UK's Prime minister Theresa May. Sources confirmed to CNN news18 that India handed over a list of 57 fugitives to UK, which includes Michelle and Mallya.

Sources said, “The list included wanted fugitives and pending requests under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty with United Kingdom.”

India had sent an extradition request for Christian Michelle in the Augusta Westland case but UK refused to extradite him. Media reports said that UK had sought details about exact address of Michele in UK. CBI , the agency investigating the Augusta Westland case believes Michelle is in UK while the enforcement directorate, looking at the money laundering aspect of augusta Westland, claims Michelle is in UAE.

Enforcement Directorate has been wanting custody of Vijay Mallya who is living in the United Kingdom.

Two other alleged fugitives - Sameer Bhai Patel and Rakesh Kapoor - are also on the list handed over to the UK. Patel is wanted in connection with 2002 Gujarat Riots cases. Sources said his extradition order has been cleared by UK. Kapoor is wanted in a child abduction case in India.

Sources told CNN news18 that India and UK agreed in principle to have a mutual home affairs bilateral meet on the lines of Indo-US homeland security meet. The arrangement with UK will be at the home secretary level and will work towards swift action on mutual legal assistance.
