No relief for Vasool Raja MBBS student

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has refused to come to the rescue of a final year MBBS student, who is said to have followed ‘Vasool Raja MBBS’ style in indulging in exam malpractices. The writ petition from S Arif Mohammed, which prayed for a direction to the authorities to publish his final year results, was rejected by Justice K Chandru. Earlier, TN Dr MGR Medical University’s counsel Narmadha Sampath submitted that the student appeared for the final year MBBS Part II exam in February 2012. However, when he wrote the exam in the centre at Stanley Medical College, the authorities received an anonymous call informing them that the students of final MBBS Part II were indulging in copying through mobile phones and blue tooth accessories inside the hall with hi-tech devices. Thereafter, a student from the Stanley medical college submitted the list containing the names of 10 students who indulged in copying, which included the name of the petitioner. The student also handed over the materials used for copying. Complaints were also received from the said candidate who submitted the materials used for copying through e-mail.The university immediately convened a meeting of the examin disciplinary committee for conducting a probe. Explanation was also called for from the Dean of the Stanley medical college. Since hi-tech devices were used, the university has also approached the Cyber Crime police.  The Cyber Crime police were also conducting further investigation. In view of all these prima facie materials and the information received, the results of 10 candidates including the petitioner were withheld. In respect of other candidates, the results were published. Subsequently, to prevent malpractice in theory exams, the university has given directions to the examiners to fix mobile phone jammers and  scan the candidates with metal detectors before entering the examination halls, Nirmala added.“In the light of the stand taken by the university, the prayer in the petition cannot be countenanced by this court,” the judge said and dismissed the petition.
