Excise and police officials in the Union Territory busted a mobile manufacturing unit of illicit liquor and arrested the driver of the mini lorry used to house the unit.
The driver is suspected to be part of a gang involved in bottling and selling spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu.
Collector Dr S B Deepak Kumar said the officials conducted a vehicle check near Pillaichavady following a tip off on Saturday night.
They stopped a mini lorry but the three occupants escaped. The driver, Mahendran (39), was held.
Officials found 1,060 litres of rectified liquor, 120 cases of big bottles, 6,000 bottles (180 ml capacity), labels of various Indian-made foreign liquor, packs of bottle caps, essence and machine for bottling the liquor.
The items seized were worth Rs 4 lakh and belonged to Kavi alias Kaviyarasan of Muthialpet and his associates Velu and Ravichandran.
