New Delhi: A MiG-29 fighter of the IAF crashed on Tuesday near Adampur airbase in Punjab minutes after taking off though its pilot bailed out safely.
The jet, which took off from the base at 1550 hrs, IST crashed just two minutes after taking off, an IAF spokesman said.
The pilot bailed out safely before the jet fell to the ground in the fields of Drolley Khurd village.
There were no reports of any casualties on the ground, police said. The jet was on a routine training mission.
A court of inquiry has been ordered by the IAF to ascertain the cause of the accident, the spokesman said.
This was the fifth IAF aircraft to crash this year. The government recently cleared a deal for a mid-life upgrade of the MiG-29 fighters.
