BANGALORE: Former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on Monday asked the media to focus on the rural of the country and asked the Press Club of Bangalore to organise an annual event to enable the media reach the remote areas of the country. Delivering a lecture on ‘Media, a Partner in Inclusive Development’ he said, “The media should focus on all sections of the society. The progress made in the field of agriculture and the movements that have lead to the all-round development in the rural areas should be reported adequately.”He asked media houses to set up a research wing to conduct extensive research into issues that relate to the country and added that media houses should ensure that all articles published were properly researched.“The media houses in some of the advanced countries elicit different views from the experts and common people on important issues and highlight them. Such analysis is necessary in a mature democracy like India to ensure that views of all sections are considered. The media houses and the journalists should continuously update their knowledge, be fearless, creative, concerned about the society and strive to be above prejudices to lead the people in the right direction through their reporting,” he adviced. The former President also asked the Press Club of Bangalore to start a website to enable people to access information on all issues pertaining to the state.Kalam on Corruption People should create an environment where corruption is fought in the homes of people who indulge in it, former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said. While replying to a query on prevention of corruption, Dr Kalam said,” Anna Hazare has managed to bring awareness about corruption. Multi-dimensional approach should be adopted to check corruption in the country. The corrupt should be identified and punished at the earliest. Therefore, special courts should be set up to ensure the cases related to corruption are disposed at the earliest.”
