BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Sunday slammed the State Government for its ‘failure’ to contain the Maoist activities which have spread to 24 districts. Passing several political resolutions at the State Executive Committee meeting here, the party said the Government had miserably failed to maintain law and order as Left- wing extremists (LWE) have spread their wings to almost all parts of the State. It reiterated its demand for CBI probe into mining, linkage coal, dal, land and rural job scams. In a separate resolution, the BJP said the Centre and the State Government are equally responsible for the unrelenting price rise of essential commodities as their policies are faulty. Expressing concern over the steep hike in electricity tariff, the party said the hike was effected at a time when the State is reeling under heatwave conditions and unscheduled power cuts. Presiding over the meeting, State  president Jual Oram said the Naveen Patnaik Government had surrendered before the Maoists. He called upon the party cadres to take the failure of the Government to the people and organise public movements against price rise, power tariff hike, frequent power cuts and HSC exam question paper leak. Former minister BB Harichandan said the Chief Minister had no moral right to continue after the Maoists abducted two Italian nationals and a sitting MLA of the ruling BJD. The manner in which the Government handled the hostage crisis proved that there is a ‘jungle raj’ prevailing in the State, he said. BJP national general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar, said the State Government and the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre are mired in a number of big corruption cases. He called upon the party workers to expose their ‘misdeeds’. National secretary and Rajya Sabha member from the State Balbir Punj and Odisha-in-charge Santosh Gangwar spoke.
