GUNTUR: A man who broke into a house and tried to molest a woman was caught by villagers and lynched at Pedavadlapudi village in Mangalagiri mandal in Guntur district Saturday. Police are trying to ascertain if the man was related to a similar attack in Mangalagiri town on Feb. 29.The man, said to be 35 years old, entered the house of V Sujata on Saturday afternoon and attacked her and her ten-year-old daughter Swetha. The woman yelled for help and neighbors rushed to her rescue. They caught him as he tried to escape and beat him up. He was handed over to the police in an unconscious state. Police rushed him to NRI General Hospital at Mangalagiri where he died, having suffered multiple fractures and severe injuries. The woman and her daughter and some villagers also received minor injuries in the incident.Additional superintendent of police V Annapurna Reddy said the man had brandished a vegetable cutter threateningly at the villagers when he was cornered. However, the villagers overpowered him and beat him to pulp.Police are investigating whether the man had anything to do with an attack on a 45-year-old housewife G Naga Lakshmi in Mangalagiri town on the night of Feb. 29.
