If you plan to marry in the near future and you happen to stay in Madhya Pradesh there is an addition to the must do list. Before you sit down to plan your honeymoon please do check it out with the Sangh Parivar. And if you don't you are in for some serious trouble.

Sample this: A thirty-year-old physically challenged-polio afflicted-Meena who lost both her parents when she was still in school fell for an auto rickshaw driver in Jabalpur and their love blossomed. They decided to go in for a court marriage and deposited the required money. The mandatory 40 day period passed off without any hitch, their were no objections from either family and December 13,06 was the date fixed for the big day. But minutes before the additional district magistrate was to declare them married the Dharam Sena arrived. The girl is a Hindu and the boy's name is Peter. A case of religious conversion by alluring the girl into marriage. Hinduism under threat. Period.

A second date was fixed for December 28. The entire sequence is repeated and January 04, 07 is the next date. January 4, was no different.
The two could finally get married on January 11 but not before the state governor intervened. Specific instructions had to be issued to the state chief secretary and the district administration. In the intervening period the couple received countless threats and I'm still not sure if the worst is over.
Now will some one care to answer how the Dharam Sena was finally convinced not to mess around? If it could be done now why not on December 13? The answer perhaps lies in the profile of those who comprise the Dharam Sena and a peep into the properties they have built. Something that is not possible under the present regime.
The Dharam Sena has intervened in many such cases in the past and surely this was not their last cause. So is Hinduism really under threat from Peter and other like him?
Not very long ago a girls college was swapped with a co-ed college in which girls are a miniscule minority in Bhopal. Reason: the girls college was in the old city area where Muslims live in large numbers and they were seducing innocent Hindu girls. And all this is done as part of an agenda.
Both Peter and Meena have their own religious beliefs but somehow those beliefs did not come in between their coming together, hence this question. Why should religious beliefs of some one else be the hurdle, particularly so when the family members of the two saw no conflict?
So are marriages really made in heaven and just solemnized on earth. Perhaps yes. At least Peter and Meena have proved that But then there is a role assigned to the dharma senas as well. A small suggestion in the end. Keep some space for these senas on the wedding invites.
